Are you ready, Kaw Prairie? For the first time ever, from August 4 - 10, the Missions & Service Team is launching KP’s Week of Service. We are asking for YOU to sign-up to serve at one (or more) of seven projects we have lined up in the Kansas City area. The team has coordinated with multiple charitable organizations to plan projects for every all age levels, availability, and areas of interest. OUR GOAL IS 300 SERVICE HOURS COMPLETED! What a great opportunity to learn about a new way to get involved your community, get your kids excited about volunteerism, or spend time serving with your Kaw Prairie family.

Do you, your family, or small group have a project you would like to do outside the Week of Service options? Maybe you already serve often with a charitable organization in the area or want to reconnect with a previous volunteer role. Awesome! Let Carisa know to help up toward out 300 service hour goal.

Once you sign-up for a project, you will receive a follow-up communication with specific details and any additional steps needed for registering with our partner organizations. Want some more details about a project? Have a question? Contact Carisa by email or phone/text (563-543-4396).

In order to support some of the projects that require purchasing items (like food to serve a meal at Wild Wednesday), we encourage you to donate a few dollars to cover the costs. Or maybe your schedule won’t allow you to serve, but still want to support the Week of Service. Click the button to offer some financial support to help make this week a success.

When a family is living paycheck to paycheck, children learn to make do with what they have-- even if that means returning to school without the supplies they need to succeed. Operation Backpack connects children in need with a new backpack filled with grade-specific school supplies. But it’s not just about paper, pens, or binders-- it’s about giving the gift of opportunity in school and life that many children will not receive otherwise.

During our week of VBS, kids will be challenged to donate items to help fill the backpack

Sunday, August 8 | 5:00 - 7:30pm | No age restriction | No limit for Volunteers Needed

Serve a meal with Micah Ministries

The Micah Ministry is the urban, ecumenical outreach mission of Independence Boulevard Christian Church to the homeless and food insecure in the historic Northeast area of Kansas City, Missouri. The Micah Ministry is designed to encourage Christian unity, end racism and “feed my sheep.” It is centered around a table ministry of home-cooked suppers in which faith-based and civic volunteers partner and seek to embody the call to evangelism by heeding the words of the prophet Micah.

Like to bake? In addition to needing people to serve the meal at their location, Micah Ministries needs 300 homebaked, individually-wrapped desserts to distribute with the meal. If you are interested in this option, please sign-up on our registation page. Desserts need to be to KP by noon on Monday, August 9.

Monday, August 9 | 5:00 - 7:30pm | Age 8+ | 12 Volunteers Needed | 300 individually-wrapped desserts needed

Volunteer at ReStore

Habitat ReStores are independently owned reuse stores operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations. ReStores accept donations and sell a constantly changing inventory of diverse, high-quality merchandise to the public at a fraction of the retail price, while diverting reusable household items and building materials from area landfills. Sales of donated items help Habitat for Humanity partner with local families to build, rehabilitate and repair safe and affordable homes in your community and around the world — a good deal for you, your community and the environment.

Volunteers for this project help sort donations at the ReStore located at ______.
